Synopsis: The story begins with the news of the sinking of the Titanic in 1912, which has a special impact on the fate of Downton Abbey.
The household is vast and has an elaborate hierarchical system, which includes maids, minions and stewards.
The series shows the relation of the servants with the bosses, the secrets revealed and hidden, problems and dilemmas faced, the quarrels between the mansion dwellers and issues like marriage, love, the past of servants, inheritance and legal problems (and moral, at one time or another).
